About the Lodge
Salmon Arm Loyal Orange Lodge No. 1642 received its warrant on April 10th, 1894.
The officers of the lodge were: J. Irwin - Worshipful Master F.G. McIntyre - Deputy Master E. Hardwick - Chaplain W. McIntyre - Recording Secretary T. Atcheson - Financial Secretary W. Miller - Treasurer R. Davis - Director of Ceremonies J. Savage - Lecturer In 1895 the members of the Lodge built their Orange Hall on Front Street (now named Lakeshore Avenue). The same year, The lodge hosted a "Twelfth of July" celebration held at McGuire Grove where a baseball game between the Kamloops lodge and Salmon Arm lodge was held. The final score was Kamloops 9, Salmon Arm 29. Consequently, a baseball craze swept the community and a meeting was held to organize a formal club. J. Irwin was chosen as the chair. In 1931, the Lodge hosted the "Twelfth" with lodges from Kamloops, Armstrong, Vernon and Kelowna participating. The parade was lead by a high ranking member on a white horse down Front Street and Alexander Avenue and back to the Orange Hall. Over 200 Orangemen attended the event catered by the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association. |
