Rednersville Loyal Orange Lodge No. 899
Rednersville, Ontario, Canada
About the Lodge
Rednersville Loyal Orange Lodge No. 899 once met on the second floor of what was later to become the Rednersville Country Store located at 1287 Rednersville Road, in Rednersville, Ontario. The structure was built in 1845.
On July 9th, 1926 an initiation ceremony was taking place in the Lodge room when lightning struck the building. The strike followed along the pipes which fed the gas lights when Bro. John Wellington Bowers and his son William were struck and killed. All but two of the other members were knocked unconscious. These two rushed down the stairs and out into the parking lot where they attempted to start their cars to go and get help. The lighting had apparently played havoc with the vehicles, none of them would start with the exception of the Bowers car, which was the only one left unaffected. |
